Heavenly Lake of Tianshan

Heavenly Lake of Tianshan

昌吉回族自治州天山天池风景名胜区·Changji, Xinjiang·Northwest China

Take the first shuttle up, walk the 15 minutes to the north shore while the peak is clearest, choose the boardwalk east toward the temple or the trails above the lake, and descend by mid-afternoon - the clouds typically build over Bogda after 14:00.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Shuttle up the gorge
Stone Gate, switchbacks and the first spruce zones - about 50 minutes of climbing road.
  2. North shore platforms
The postcard reflection while the water is still and the peak unveiled.
  3. Boardwalk toward the temple
East shore under the cliffs to the Queen Mother's Temple steps.
  4. East pool cascade (energetic option)
The uphill trail to the waterfall amphitheater above the lake.
  5. Shuttle down
Return before the cloud build; airport-bound travelers can head direct - Tianchi and the airport share Urumqi's east side.
