Millennium City Park

开封市清明上河园景区·Kaifeng, Henan·Central China

Plan Millennium City Park around the show schedule, not the map: photograph the daily program board on entry (or open the park's mini-program), block out the marquee shows first, and let the rest of the painting find you between them.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. One day — Painting by Day, Spectacle by Night
08:40 at Yingbin Gate for Lord Bao's welcome → Rainbow Bridge and a Bian River cruise → 'Yue Fei Spears Young Prince Liang' (claim a seat early) → snacks at Dongjing Food Court → the 'Defense of Dongjing' water battle → costume photos in the golden hour → 17:30 park-wide light-up → 21:00 iron flowers, or the 'Dream of Dongjing' show with an A-section seat.
  2. Two days — Slow Song, Split Across the 3-Day Ticket
Day 1: the South Zone's street shows, food court and market life plus the Great Song Royal Amusement Park rides. Day 2 (re-entry free): the North Zone royal garden, Fuyun Pavilion views and a costume imperial exam, then dress up for lantern night and the lake show.
  3. Half day — Evening Essence
Enter mid-afternoon: borrow a Song costume timed for the light, catch a water-battle or wire-work show, watch the 17:30 light-up transform the streets, shoot lantern reflections at the Rainbow Bridge, and finish under the 21:00 iron flowers.

What to See

1

Rainbow Bridge (虹桥)

The painting's miracle of engineering — a giant-log arch 'like a flying rainbow' with no pillars; the park's core landmark and best night photo.

2

Shangshan Gate (上善门)

The 21.6 m gloriously painted gate dividing 'downtown' from the royal garden; climb the gatehouse after dark for a panorama of the illuminated city.

3

Fuyun Pavilion (拂云阁)

The park's tallest building at 31.99 m — four bright stories over three hidden levels and the best viewing platform over rooftops and lake.

4

The Bronze Scroll Relief

A 33.32 m bronze relief of the entire 'Qingming' painting near the entrance — read the whole scroll before walking into it.

5

Royal Garden Waterside

The twin Xuanhe and Xuande Halls with Water-Heart Pavilion form a grand waterside theater; the double-pavilion bridge borrows its design from Wang Ximeng's 'A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains'.

6

Great Song Royal Amusement Park

The 2023 Phase-3 wing: five legend-themed rides — including 'Sushuang Gallop', reportedly Asia's largest carousel — all free with park entry.

Tips from Real Travelers

Food & Drink

Kaifeng Soup Dumplings (灌汤包)

The city's signature — thin-skinned dumplings full of hot broth, steamed by the dozen along the Dongjing Food Court.

Almond Tea (杏仁茶)

A Song-era sweet drink of ground almonds, fragrant with osmanthus — the classic between-shows warmer.

Pan-Fried Mutton Bread (羊肉炕馍)

Crisp flatbread stuffed with spiced mutton — the food court's most fragrant hand-warmer.

Carp with Baked Noodles (鲤鱼焙面)

Henan's banquet classic — sweet-and-sour lake carp under a nest of fried noodles, served in period style at the recreated Sunyang tavern from the original painting.
