What to See

1

Jade Emperor Peak & the Summit Steles

The 1,545 m apex — 'First of the Five Peaks' carved stone and the Tang-dynasty cliff inscription steps away.

2

Sun-Watching Peak

The sunrise terrace east of the summit — arrive 40 minutes early in season.

3

Bixia Temple

The summit's Daoist grand temple of the Princess of the Azure Clouds — incense and iron tiles.

4

The Eighteen Bends

The 1,600-step wall of stair between Longevity Bridge and South Heaven Gate — climb it once, remember it forever.

5

One-Line-Sky & the Red Gate Gorge

The lower route's tight gorge sections and Dougong arch gates on the imperial path.

6

Dai Temple

At the foot: Western-Han halls, the Song mural of the emperor's procession, ¥20 — pair it with a rest day.

Tips from Real Travelers

Food & Drink

Tai'an Pancake Rolls

Thin wheat pancakes rolled with scallion and sauce — the city's street staple at the mountain gates.

Taishan Tofu Banquet

The emperors' fasting table grown into a banquet — dozens of tofu courses recreated from the fengshan kitchens; a Tai'an intangible-heritage feast.

Summit Noodles & Tea

Bowl noodles at the top (pricey but earned) and mountain-grown Taishan tea in the temple courtyards.

Taishan Chilin Fish

A small, sweet stream fish found only on Mount Tai — traditionally crisp-fried whole as an imperial tribute dish; farmed stocks keep it on banquet menus today.
