Kanas Lake

Kanas Lake

阿勒泰地区喀纳斯景区·Altay, Xinjiang·Northwest China

Base in Kanas village (or Jiadengyu), walk the three bays at dawn mist, shuttle up the Fish Viewing Pavilion for the panorama, then give the lake shoreline and Tuva village their slow afternoon. Hemu and Baihaba each justify their own overnight on longer trips.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Jiadengyu → Kanas village
Shuttle in via the checkpoint, drop bags with the transfer service, sunset walk along the river.
  2. Immortal Bay mist
First shuttle to the bays before 07:30 - the mist over Immortal Bay evaporates within the hour.
  3. Bays boardwalk
Walk Immortal → Moon → Crouching Dragon downstream, platform by platform.
  4. Fish Viewing Pavilion
Shuttle + the 1,000 steps to the terrace over the full lake - afternoon light for the water color.
  5. Village & lake shore
Tuva old village lanes, milk tea, then the shoreline trail before the transfer out (or onward to Hemu).

What to See

1

Moon Bay from the platform

The S-curve in one frame - morning or golden hour, never midday.

2

Immortal Bay at first light

Mist pillars rising off warm water into cold air - a 20-minute phenomenon.

3

The terrace view of the lake

The whole glacial amphitheater and the monster's claimed beat.

4

Birch-spruce autumn corridors

Gold on dark green along every village path - late September only.

5

Tuva hearths and horse fences

Village texture: smoke from chimney logs, saddled horses at dawn.

6

Winter's frozen bays

Snow over the boardwalks and ice-bound bends - the other Kanas entirely.
