Longgong (Dragon Palace) Caves

安顺市龙宫景区·AnShun, Guizhou·Southwest China

Longgong reads best as one flowing water journey — shuttle, boat and short walks stitched into a loop, not a checklist. These notes blend official guidance with seasoned travelers' hard-won route sense.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Half day — The Essence Loop (about 3 h)
Visitor center → shuttle to Dragon Gate Falls → escalator (or 15-minute walk past small caves) up to the Heaven Pool dock → boat through Caves 1 & 2, staying aboard for the return → shortcut exit past the Buyi street.
  2. One day — The Deep Route (about 5 h)
Dragon Gate Falls → walk up via small dry caves → Caves 1 & 2 by boat, disembarking at Cave 2 → Tiger Cave → the Ksitigarbha hall → Guanyin Cave → Whirlpool Pond boat → Dragon Character Field → back through Taozi Village.
  3. Two days — Dragon Palace & Waterfall
Day 1 the Longgong deep route, overnight in Anshun's old town of Ming temples and food streets; Day 2 Huangguoshu Waterfall 30 km west on the 10-day joint ticket — or add the world-record bridges over the Baling River gorge.

What to See

1

First & Second Dragon Palace

The heart of the park: two linked cave halls toured entirely by boat, past welcoming-dragon stalactites and crystal-palace galleries of lit water.

2

Dragon Gate Flying Waterfall

The record-setting 38-metre in-cave cascade — stand on the viewing deck and take the spray.

3

Whirlpool Pond & Tongxuan River

A natural whirlpool lake where boats drift between karst walls — 'the mountain doesn't turn, the water does.'

4

Guanyin Cave

A vast cavern turned Buddhist shrine — the bell's note rolls around the rock long after you strike it.

5

Dragon Character Field

The hillside paddy planted as one giant 龙 character — best from the overlook in growing season.

6

Taozi Village & Herb Valley

A walking gorge of medicinal plants and a national 'most beautiful village' of farm stays beneath the peaks.

Slow-braised trotters that burst with broth — Anshun's comfort-food classic.

Sour-Soup Fish Hot Pot (酸汤鱼)

Guizhou's fermented red-sour broth with fresh fish — an appetite you didn't know you had.

Anshun Griddle (烙锅)
