A 1.48-square-kilometer tropical islet in Sanya's Haitang Bay, nicknamed 'China's Maldives' - crystal water over coral gardens, China's first tropical marine ranch, and a full menu of sea, land, air and underwater adventures.
Wuzhizhou Island sits like a butterfly on the turquoise water of Haitang Bay, a 5A-rated islet about 30 minutes offshore from Sanya. Around 1.48 square kilometers of white sand, casuarina groves and coral-fringed shallows have made it Hainan's most famous playground for water sports and island romance.
The islet pioneered China's first tropical marine ranch - a seeded reef ecosystem that now supports four named dive sites (Qilin Sea, Back Garden, Glass Fish Planet and Little Universe) and a spectrum of activities few Chinese islands can match: coral and advanced dives, semi-submersible 'dolphin' boats, jet-propelled rides, flyboarding-style 'sea-sky dance', helicopter loops around the island and an outdoor wind-tunnel center.
Between adventures, the island's Instagram-famous spots - Lovers' Bridge, Lovers' Isle, Sunrise Rock and the freshwater pool filmed in the movie 'Personal Tailor' - and the coral-shaped five-star island hotel make Wuzhizhou as much a honeymoon and photo destination as an adrenaline one. Day-trippers alternate sunbathing with snorkeling; overnight guests get the island after the crowds leave.
Highlights
Coral dive sites
Four dive sites ring the seeded reef: expect parrotfish, groupers, sea urchins and clouds of tropical fish over the coral - snorkel and try-dive programs run daily, check-in closes 16:30.
Lovers' Bridge
A long wooden pier curving over glass-clear water - the island's signature photo, especially at morning high tide.
Sunrise Rock
The islet's eastern granite outcrop, reached by boardwalk; dawn here over the open South China Sea is the island's quietest spectacle.
Marine ranch & glass-bottom viewing
China's first tropical marine ranch - view the seeded reef through glass-bottom boats or the underwater viewing gallery without getting wet.
'Sea, land, air & underwater' sports
Motor rafts, dolphin semi-submarines, sea-sky dance jet flights, island-circling helicopter tours and an outdoor wind tunnel - a rare four-domain adventure menu.
'Personal Tailor' freshwater pool
The palm-ringed pool featured in Feng Xiaogang's hit movie, now a tropical photo set in its own right.
