What to See

1

The Golden Hall

A 1416 bronze-and-gilt hall assembled on the summit — China's metalwork marvel, lightning-struck and revered.

2

South Cliff's Dragon Burner

The stone dragon-head that juts from the cliff — once the ultimate act of devotion to light incense there.

3

One-Pillar-Twelve-Beams

Prince Slope's carpentry riddle — five storeys of roof on a single pillar's forest of beams.

4

The Nine-Bend Yellow River Wall

The red, wave-like corridor linking Prince Slope's courts — the mountain's most-photographed walkway.

5

Purple Cloud Palace Rites

Morning chants and incense at the mountain's principal palace — go early to see the resident Taoists.

6

Pure Void Palace (Free)

The ruined-but-reborn Ming palace at the mountain's foot — free, vast and quiet, end of day one.

Tips from Real Travelers

Food & Drink

Taoist Vegetarian Tables

The temple-adjacent vegetarian restaurants — mushroom, tofu and mountain-herb courses with ritual calm.

Danjiangkou Fish

The reservoir's fish head soup — the lake at the mountain's foot on the table.

Wudang Dao Tea

The mountain's own tea, served in every temple courtyard — buy tins at the old camp's shops.

Fangxian Shiitake & Wood-Ear

Shiyan's Fangxian county grows China-protected flower shiitake and 'swallow-ear' wood-ear fungus — the quiet backbone of the mountain's temple pots and town stir-fries, and the honest souvenir in dried bags.
